Royal Gorge Bridge & Park:
The Royal Gorge is one of the greatest geological marvels in all of Colorado. With its steep wall and beautiful river flowing through it, the view is breathtaking. The Royal Gorge Bridge is the world's highest suspension bridge, which is 1,153 feet, and when combined with the rest of the park your visit can fill a whole day with site, including rides and food for the entire family. Ride the steepest incline railway in the United States down to the bottom of the gorge, take an aerial tram ride across the gorge or see how the bridge was built in 1929 without a single death at the Plaza Theater. Kids will especially enjoy the wildlife pavilion, the Royal Gorge Silver Rock Railway, and the carousel. All are included with admission and the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park is open year round.
Buckskin Joe's Frontier Town:
Buckskin Joe has played host to some of Hollywood's biggest starts as a movie set for such memorable westerns as "True Grit", "Cat Ballou" and the "Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox." Today, you can watch authentically costumed actors shoot it out in realistic gunfights staged several times daily on the streets of Buckskin Joe. Stroll down Main Street and explore the 27 buildings from Colorado's pioneer past including stores, saloons, banks, hotels, livery stables and even an undertaker's parlor. Located in Texas Creek, Colorado at the all terrain capital of Colorado. Blossom Festival:
An annual event, the Canon City Blossom Festival occurs on the first weekend of each May. A combination of a nationally recognized national band competition and a full-ledged parade and celebration, the Blossom Festival provides fun for the entire family.
Entertainment in the park:
Each Tuesday during the summer months, Canon City provides free outdoor entertainment just outside of downtown at Freedom Park. A great place for a picnic or just to relax after a day on the rapids or seeing the sites, and the music is sure to entertain everyone.
Fourth of July:
Buckskin Joe's and the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park each celebrate the Fourth of July in unique fashions. At Buckskin Joe's, try an Old Fashioned Fourth of July straight out of the old west, with games and prizes for all ages. Or stop at the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park for the Red, White & Blue Celebration! With special entertainment and music throughout the day. You are sure to have a fun time! Fremont County Fair:
Held in late July and early August, this week long event includes everything you've come to love in county fairs such as cotton candy, horse and cow shows, and of course music at night.
Fiddler's on the Arkansas:
A favorite for years, Fiddler's on the Arkansas usually occurs the second weekend of August and includes fiddlers, both famous and new comers whom compete at the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park.
