Travel on good highways next to sparkling lakes and rushing rivers through vast hardwood and coniferous forests. Bancroft is located in a valley carved through very ancient granite bedrock, making it an excellent location and famous for semi-precious mineral collectors. Temperatures can rise to +35 C in the summer and drop to -35 C in the winter. The Best Western Sword Motor Inn is only a five-minute walk from downtown stores on seven acres of private parkland beside the York River. You can canoe from our own riverfront as well as hike or drive up to the nearby Eagles Nest to enjoy a fine panoramic view of the famous Canadian Shield - especially beautiful during the fall (autumn) color season. In the winter, cross-country ski at nearby Silent Lake or snowmobile many hundreds of kilometers of trails. Both snowmobiles in winter and all terrain vehicles (ATV) in summer have easy access from the heritage trail by crossing the new recreational bridge over the York River. Open all year, the Best Western Sword Motor Inn is a great base from which to explore world-renowned Algonquin Park and its wildlife.
